Russian nuclear power engineers are preparing the 1st unit of Tianwan NPP for exploitation

After the completion of the repairs, the reactor of the 1st unit of Tianwan NPP has been launched at a minimum controlled capacity. 

On Apr 14 the thermal capacity of the reactor was raised to 40%. The generator was switched on.

On Apr 16 the thermal capacity of the reactor was raised to 75%. The electric capacity of the unit made up 745 MW.

Shortly, the capacity of the reactor will be raised to 100%.

As of today the 1st unit of Tianwan NPP has generated 1,946,903 MWh.

The contract for Tianwan NPP construction was signed in 1997. Under the contract, Russia is obliged to build two WWER-1000 power units with a total capacity of 2000 MW. This is the biggest Russian-Chinese project. Tianwan is the most powerful NPP project in China. 

Experts say that WWER-1000 reactors are very safe. They have deeply echeloned protection and several safety levels.
