Atomsroyexport representatives take part in 11th meeting of the Russian-Bulgarian Inter-Governmental Commission in Sofia

A delegation of Atomstroyexport has taken part in the 11th meeting of the Russian-Bulgarian Inter-Governmental Commission

Delegation of Atomstroyexport CJSC, led by the first vice president of the company Alexander Glukhov, took part in the 11th meeting of the Russian-Bulgarian Inter-Governmental Commission on Trade-Economic and Scientific-Technical Cooperation, held in Sofia on Apr 22–25. The Russian co-chairman of the commission is the head of the staff of the Russian Government Sergey Naryshkin, the Bulgarian co-chairman – Bulgarian Economy and Energy Minister Rumen Ovcharov. Rosatom was represented by the deputy head of the agency Vladimir Travin.

The commissioners discussed the strategic directions of the Russian-Bulgarian cooperation. They noted that the Belene NPP project – a Bulgarian NPP being built by Russian Atomstroyexport — is the biggest project of the Russian-Bulgarian cooperation. The Bulgarian Government has proclaimed Belene as a facility of national significance.

During the meeting the commission signed a protocol recommending that Belene be considered as one of the priorities of the Russian-Bulgarian nuclear energy cooperation. This protocol gives Belene a special status and guarantees that it will be actively supported on a governmental level.

The commissioners stressed the importance of further cooperation in the fuel-energy complex, particularly, the necessity of involving Russian organizations in the modernization, reconstruction and decommissioning of nuclear power facilities and the development of the nuclear energy complex of Bulgaria.
