Ceremony of honoring the first president of TVEL V.Konovalov took place in Rosatom
On Apr 27 Rosatom organized a ceremony of honoring the retiring veteran of nuclear power engineering, the first president of TVEL OJSC, the former nuclear energy ad industry minister Vitaly Konovalov. Attending the ceremony were the deputy head of Rosatom I.Kamenskikh, the acting president of TVEL A.Badenkov, the deputy director general of Rosenergoatom V.Asmolov, the directors general of TVEL.
The colleagues and friends said many kind words about Konovalov and pointed out his outstanding contribution to the development of the nuclear power industry and TVEL, in particular.
The deputy head of Rosatom I.Kamenskikh pointed out the important role of Konovalov in preserving the potential of the Russian nuclear power industry and implementing a number of crucial projects. He pointed out that, when Minister, Konovalov made a lot of important decisions.
Vitaly Konovalov was born in Sverdlovsk on Apr 14 1932. In 1956 he graduated from the Physics and Engineering Department of Ural Polytechnic Institute. In 1956–1975 he worked at Ulba Metallurgical Plant. In 1975 he was appointed as the director of Chepetsk Mechanical Plant (Glazov, Udmurtia); in 1979 – the director of Elemash; in Mar 1986 – the head of the Third Chief (Fuel Element Production) Department of the Ministry of Medium Machine Building of the USSR. In 1988–1989 Konovalov was the Deputy Minister of Medium Machine Building of the USSR. In July 1989–1992 he was the Minister of Nuclear Energy and Industry of the USSR. In 1992–1996 he was the First Deputy Minister of Nuclear Energy of the Russian Federation; in 1996–2000 – the president, in 2000–2002 – the vice president of TVEL. In 2002 he was appointed as the advisor of the TVEL president.
Konovalov is Twice Laureate of State Prize (for design and industrial production of tantalum and superconducting materials). He has been awarded the Order of Lenin, the Order of October Revolution, the Order of Red Banner of Labor, the Order of Honor.
