Smolensk NPP conducts a contest of scientific research among its young employees

On Apr 10-May 10 the Organization of Young Nuclear Power Engineers of Smolensk NPP conducted a contest of scientific research among the plant’s young specialists. The key topics were nuclear and neutron physics, nuclear safety, NPP operation and maintenance, NPP efficiency and safety, modernization and life prolongation, ecology.

The jury examined 11 works and evaluated them according to 10 criteria, among them novelty, topicality, professional knowledge, patentability.

The 1st place winner is Andrey Bogens, the senior engineer of the Technological Department, with the research “PRISMA Methodology of Vertical Energy Distribution Approximation at RBMK-1000 Reactor,” the 2nd is Viktoria Dudinskaya, the head of the laboratory of the Radiation Safety Department, with “New Method of Radiostrontium Detection by Means of “Guardian 1414” Spectrometer” and the 3rd is Yevgenia Grebenschikova, the engineer of the Maintenance Department, with “Storage of Graphite Heads and Rings After Their Removal from Fuel Channel.”

The authors of the two best works Andrey Bogens and Viktoria Dudinskaya will be sent to the scientific symposium to be held in the framework of the Dysnai 2007 festival in Visaginas (Lithuania).

Smolensk nuclear power engineers care for their history

Smolensk NPP and the Museum of the great Russian composer Mikhail Glinka, located in the village of Novospasskoye, Yelnin district, Smolensk region, are good old friends. This year, on May 27, the Museum will celebrate its 25th anniversary. The employees of SNPP have been frequent guests at the Museum throughout its existence. Their active support of the Museum has become a good tradition: they help with repairs and gardening.

Recently, the plant helped the Museum to buy cleaning equipment. On June 3 the Museum will host a music festival in honor of Glinka and the plant’s employees will take a very active part in it.

Days of Ecological Knowledge at SNPP

In the framework of the preparations for the celebration of the 25th anniversary of Smolensk NPP, the Information and PR Center of the plant is conducting various public events: meetings with local residents, schoolchildren, veterans.

Special attention is paid to children. On May 21–31 the Center will conduct Days of Environment Protection for primary school pupils. During the meetings the Center will conduct virtual excursions to SNPP, veterans will tell the children about history of the plant.

32 schoolchildren from Desnogorsk visited the Center on May 21. They took part in a quiz on nuclear energy and showed very good knowledge of the subject.

Over 300 children are expected to visit the Center during the Days.

Youth is for spiritual revival of Russia

Today, Russia is actively restoring and building churches. Desnogorsk is also building a church – the biggest cathedral in Smolensk region. This project is sponsored by Rosenergoatom, SNPP, residents and guests of Desnogorsk. 

Last Sunday young specialists of SNPP went to the cathedral to help in the construction. They wrote their names on the bricks that will be laid in the walls. When the church is ready, the local priests will remember all the constructors during their services. This action was the first contribution of our young specialists to the project.
