Smolensk nuclear power engineers have conducted ecological clean-up action

Over 1,200 employees of Smolensk NPP conducted an ecological clean-up action in Desnogorsk on June 9 2007. Local residents actively helped them to clean up their city.

The action was coordinated by the director of SNPP Andrey Petrov.

“We want our town to be ecologically clean,” Petrov said.

The participants in the action cleaned up the roads, squares, parks, children’s playground, the quay of the local reservoir. They went into the streets with SNPP flags and posters: “Desnogorsk is Our Clean House!”, “Lets Do Our City Beautiful!”, “Lets Clean Up Our Yards for Ourselves, for Old People and Children!”, “Cleanness Will Save the World!”, etc..

The slogan of the Youth Organization of SNPP was “We Are For Clean City!”

Dozens of tons of garbage was collected during the action. In fact, it was the biggest clean-up in the last 15 years. Now, Desnogorsk is shining with cleanness and beauty.

During a press-conference the director of SNPP Andrey Petrov said: “Our general view is that such actions must be held on a regular basis. We must improve our living conditions. We must make our city clean.”

The acting head of the Desnogorsk administration Sergey Toschev said: “Today, we have done a great job. SNPP’s initiative was really wonderful. We could not even imagine that so many people would come together in a joint effort to make our city clean and beautiful. We must care for our city and keep it clean.”
