All-Russian conference on NPP anti-terror resistance has been conducted at Kursk NPP

On June 19–21 Kursk NPP hosted an all-Russian conference on NPP anti-terror resistance.

Attending the conference were representatives of the central and territorial offices of the Federal Security Service and the Interior Ministry, the central office and the relevant services of Rosatom, Rostekhnadzor and Rosenergoatom and the authorities of Kursk NPP.

The conferees discussed a wide range of problems concerning the enhancement of the Russian NPPs’ anti-terror resistance, cooperation of concerning services on the improvement of the physical protection of nuclear power facilities, the control of nuclear materials and radioactive matters.

They analyzed the activities for protecting state and commercial secret and ensuring the economic security of the Russian NPPs.

The president of the meeting, the first deputy head of the Economic Security Service of the FSS of Russia, Lieut. Gen. Yuri Yakovlev pointed out the special importance of anti-terror resistance now that the danger of terrorist is quickly growing. The evolutionary changes in Russia’s nuclear power industry also require enhanced attention to safety.

The conferees pointed out the positive experience of Kursk NPP in physical protection. For the best physical protection activities in 2006 the deputy director general of Rosenergoatom Nikolay Safronov handed the director of Kursk NPP Yuri Slepokon a copy of Rosenergoatom’s Red Challenge Banner.

Kursk NPP is the first Russian NPP to receive this award. This is to show the plant’s efficiency in physical protection: since 1999 it has been the best in the sphere.
