“Best Electrician” contest took place at Kola NPP on June 22

Seven representatives of the electrical department – A.Kurochkin, V.Gorunov, V.Danilov, A.Lapin, Y.Bulavin, O.Rudakov and R.Lukin – took part in the contest. Despite difference in age and specialization they all proved their high professionalism. The contest set quite difficult tasks but they easily coped with them as they do such work every day. The jury – the deputy director for repairs Y.Yaschenko, the head of the electric department l.Yuzmiyev, the chairwoman of the trade union L.Proskurnina – welcomed the contenders. They expressed hope that the contest would not only raise their professionalism but also would propagate high efficiency and safety culture at the plant.

The contest consisted of theory and practice. At first, the contenders were offered written tests. Vladimir Gorunov was the best in theory. He scored 95 points.

Practice consisted of checking up insulating resistance and cable adsorption coefficient in an automatic switch. The catch was that they had also to choose the proper tool from a heap of bad instruments. Some contenders gave little care to this process forgetting that proper tool is vital in their work. “Bad tool, just like torn rubber gloves, is the biggest danger to an electrician’s life,” the head of the electric department Yuzmiyev said while summing up the results.

The chairwoman of the trade union L.Proskurnina said that the contest was one more opportunity for the contenders to look at their own selves from the outside and to raise their self-esteem.

Yevgeny Bulavin was proclaimed the absolute winner. Vladimir Gorunov and Vikor Danilov were the 2nd and he 3rd. Bulavin will get 7,000 RUR, Gorunov — 5,000 RUR, Danilov – 3,000 RUR.
