1st unit of Kursk NPP stopped

The capacity of the 1st unit of Kursk NPP has been reduced to zero level

On July 4 2007 the personnel of Kursk NPP detected leaks in the industrial water pipeline – in the section between the water intake facility and the reactor compartment. At 1:23 PM the unit was stopped. As soon as the leaks are removed, it will be restarted.

The incident posed no threat to either the plant itself or the nearby area. The plant is operating safety.

The radiation background at Kursk NPP and in the nearby are is within norm.
