Kursk NPP is operating safely

On July 4 2007 at 1:23 PM the capacity of the 1st unit of Kursk NPP was reduced to zero level

The unit was stopped because of the leaks detected in the industrial water pipeline – in the section between the water intake facility and the reactor compartment.

The stoppage posed no threat to the plant and the nearby area. The plant is operating safely. The unit will be restarted as soon as the leaks are removed.

Earlier, on July 2007 7:32 AM the automatic protection systems of the 2nd unit switched off the turbine generator N4 and reduced the capacity to 50%.

The turbine generator was restarted the same day at 11:18 AM, with all safety rules observed.

The radiation background at Kursk NPP and in the nearby area is within norm.
