Management of Volgodonsk NPP have taken all necessary measures for preventing fires at the plant and its facilities

The Rostov region has been suffering from scorching heat since May. In June, July and Aug the temperature in Rostov-on-Don and the region hit record 42C. This is the maximum temperature for the region. In the last century such temperature has been registered just twice: in 1938 and 1998.

The chief department of the Emergency Ministry of Russia for the Rostov region has warned local enterprises and population about high possibility of fire. Several minor fires have already been registered in the east of the region, near Volgodonsk NPP.

One such fire was registered in the Romanovsky forestry, 5km from Volgodonsk and 15–20km from Volgodonsk NPP, on Aug 13–14. Both federal and local rescuers went to the scene to fight the fire. On Aug 15 they put it out. Minor fires are being extinguished by fosterers.

The management of Volgodonsk NPP have taken all necessary measures to prevent fires at the plant and its facilities, particularly, at the construction site of unit 2 of Rostov NPP. The experts of the regional fire department are instructing the operators of Volgodonsk NPP and the constructors of unit 2 of Rostov NPP on how to prevent fires. They are sure that the high temperature in the region poses no threat to Volgodonsk NPP and its facilities.
