IAEA’s proposals for establishing a coalition of research reactors have been considered at Research Institute of Atomic Reactors
Representatives of IAEA, Rosatom, Research Institute of Atomic Reactors (RIAR) and other nuclear organizations met at RIAR (Dmitrovgrad) on Sept 5–6 2007 so as to consider IAEA’s proposals for establishing a coalition of research reactors and centers of advanced technologies.
This idea was first suggested during an IAEA conference in Vienna in late 2006.
In Dmitrovgrad the experts considered a relevant pilot project as well as formats of possible coalitions of research reactors and the benefits they might bring to organizations operating those reactors. The project will be a ground for elaborating common methods for estimating the cost of the services provided by research reactors and an opportunity for the countries wishing to develop nuclear energy, but lacking relevant experience, to carry out quick and relatively cheap research.
