Leningrad NPP continues preparing for the Sept 19–21 complex emergency training

The services of the plant are actively drilling their abilities to respond to emergencies. For example, the support system department has already conducted two exercises for preventing an accident at a water main, while the fire security department has learned how to extinguish a fire at a nuclear power unit.

On Tuesday, Sept 11, the Emergency and Fire Security Commission of Leningrad NPP reviewed the plant’s free-lance rescue forces. The commission is chaired by the director of Leningrad NPP V.Lebedev and comprises the deputies of the plant’s director and the chief engineer.

“Today, we have reviewed our free-lance rescuers. We have checked up if they know what to do during the training and if they are property equipped for it,” Lebedev said.

A total of 434 free-lancers took part in the review: rescuers, radiation, chemical and biological reconnaissance officers, doctors, decontamination specialists, sanitarians,  security men.

Each of them has been trained for responding to emergencies and accidents. The head of the Mobilization Training Department of Leningrad NPP V.Ivanov explained that the free-lance group consists of repairers and engineers of the plant.

All of them are equipped with radiation and chemical reconnaissance, decontamination, welding,  electric and protection  systems.

Their commanders are trained every five years at the Training and Methodological Center of Rosatom, the Chief Department of the Emergency Ministry for Leningrad region and other special educational institutions.

The commission also reviewed the equipment: debris cleaners ad other special vehicles.

The commissioners were satisfied with the preparedness of the forces for the forthcoming training.
