A column of Emergency Ministry vehicles is moving towards Sosnovy Bor for participating in complex emergency training at Leningrad NPP

A column of 15 Emergency Ministry vehicles is moving towards Sosnovy Bor for participating in the complex emergency training to be conducted at Leningrad NPP on Sept 19–21 2007.

The head of the press service of the Emergency Ministry for North-Western Russia Grigory Gorbunov says that the equipment is moving from Kolpino and will be deployed near Sosnovy Bor.

To remind, on Sept 19–21 2007 Leningrad NPP will host complex emergency training with the participation of Rosenergoatom Emergency Response Group.

It will be a large-scale event involving representatives of Rostekhnadzor, RosHydroMet, Russian Research Center “Kurchatov Institute,” Nuclear Safety Institute, N.A. Dolezhal Research and Development Institute of Power Engineering, Typhoon SPA, Rosatom Crisis Center, firemen, interior troops, rescuers of LNPP, Regional Crisis Center and Emergency Ministry, first aid officers. 

Check points, radiation control and decontamination stations and other necessary facilities will be deployed in the area during the training. Some of LNPP employees and Sosnovy Bor residents may be evacuated to a special area. 

The trainees will use warning signals: sirens and “Training” signs.

Many foreign experts have already shown interest in the event and expressed wish to watch it.

Leningrad NPP is situated on the shore of the Gulf of Finland of Baltic Sea 80 km west of St.Petersburg/

Since Apr 1 2002 Leningrad Nuclear Power Plant has been the branch of Federal State Unitary Enterprise “Russian State Concern for Production of Electric and Thermal Power at Nuclear Power Plants” (Rosenergoatom Concern).

The plant has four units with RBMK-1000 reactors with a total capacity of 4000 MW. In 2006 the plant produced 23.178bln KWh.
