A group of Byelorussian nuclear power engineers have visited Balakovo NPP

A group of representatives of the Department for the Management of “Byelorussian NPP” project have visited Balakovo NPP.

The guests were interested a wide range of questions related to research, NPP construction, training of operators for future Byelorussian NPP, the peculiarities of WWER-1000 reactors, methods to shape positive public opinion of nuclear power engineering.

All the above problems were discussed during a roundtable at the Public Information Center of Balakovo NPP.

The Byelorussian guests also visited the plant and its public information and training centers.

“Your specialists were so open and attentive. They advised us on so many problems and were happy to share their experience. We are impressed with your plant and your personnel, their high responsibility and safety culture,” the head of the department Yelena Mironova said.

On Nov 12 2007 President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko decreed to make preparations for the construction of nuclear power plant in Belarus. In fact, the preparations were started 1.5 years ago. The Energy Ministry has established a directorate for the construction of nuclear power plant in Belarus. The Byelorussian authorities are cooperating with IAEA and are negotiating with Rosatom and companies from other countries for their possible participation in the project. The plant is supposed to have a capacity of 2000MW and to be built by 2018. Mohylew region is one of the possible sites for the plant.
