27.11.2007 // RIA Sibir

50th anniversary of Nuclear Physics Institute was celebrated at Tomsk Polytechnic University on Nov 27 2007

The 50th anniversary of Nuclear Physics Institute was celebrated at Tomsk Polytechnic University, today, on Nov 27 2007. It is the only research institute in Ural region that has a training research nuclear reactor.

The program of celebrations includes a conference “Physico-technical Problems of Production and Use of Beams of Charged Particles, Neutrons, Plasma and Electro-magnetic Radiation.” The conferees will discuss problems related to fundamental and applied research in the field of nuclear processes, generation of beams of charged particles and plasma, microwave radiation, optical and roentgen radiation, use of high technologies in production of radio-medicines, new materials, beams of charged particles, plasma and electro-magnetic radiation.

On Nov 29 the Academic Council of Nuclear Physics Institute will hold a jubilee meeting with the participation of present and former employees of the institute, representatives of Russian and foreign universities and research companies and scientists of Tomsk.

The past 50 years of Nuclear Physics Institute are reflected in 37 monographs, 18 collections of scientific papers and over 1,000 inventor’s certificates and patents and lots of articles. The institute has had 48 doctors and 400 candidates and has organized 38 international and All-Union scientific conferences. The projects of the institute have received different governmental awards.

Over 20 former employees of Nuclear Physics Institute are well-known scientists. 8 former employees are members of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The institute’s huge experience in design and operation of accelerators, production of radio-isotopes and radio-medicines and neutron therapy was a sufficient basis for it to suggest establishing a Nuclear Medicine Center in Tomsk.
