IAEA experts visited Novosibirsk Chemical Concentrate Plant Nov 26–30 with a view to inspect containers with nuclear fuel for Bushehr NPP in Iran
The IAEA experts, jointly with representatives of the Federal Agency for Nuclear Energy, the Iranian side and NCCP, inspected the fuel and the containers. Particularly, they carried out random instrumental monitoring of fuel assemblies: they removed assemblies from randomly selected and unsealed containers, checked them up for 30 minutes, put them back and sealed the containers again with IAEA’s special metal seals.
The deputy director general of NCCP Konstantin Grabelnikov said: “We have created all necessary conditions for the inspectors’ work. The inspection has been carried out in accordance with the schedule and all relevant requirements. The inspectors have confirmed that the fuel contains less than 5% of uranium-235 and complies with all IAEA’s standards.”
“The fuel will be supplied to Bushehr NPP as soon as they need it and relevant instructions are received,” Grabelnikov said.
