Nuclear and Radiation Safety Department of Northern European Inter-Regional Territorial District has carried out planned inspection of Smolensk NPP

Dec 3–14 2007 the Nuclear and Radiation Safety Department of Northern European Inter-Regional Territorial District carried out a planned target inspection of Smolensk NPP. The experts inspected the work of the personnel for ensuring the safe operation of the plant and the safe treatment of its radioactive waste. The experts were led by the head of the department Viktor Savyolov.

The experts visited the nuclear safety and radioactive waste treatment departments and inspected the plant’s control boards, reactor compartments, radiation control systems and temporary radioactive waste storage facility.

In conclusion, Savyolov said: “We are satisfied with the results of our inspection. We have detected no single violation of the nuclear and radiation safety rules. The inspection has shown that Smolensk Nuclear Power Plant is safe and efficient.”
