On Dec 27 2007 unit 3 of Kursk NPP will be stopped for planned overhaul

The overhaul will last for 283 days.

The key objective of such a long maintenance campaign is to enhance the safety of the unit.

During the overhaul the personnel are supposed

• to continue the modernization of the unit started in Aug 2005-Mar 2006;

• to install integrated ball cleaning system;

• to introduce a complex control and protection system, a system of uninterrupted energy supply, an information and measuring system SKALA-MICRO, a system for reduction of water flow in collectors;

• to replace 400 channel assemblies;

• to reinforce the structure of the «hot» premises;

• to modernize the blade systems of turbine generators 5 and 6;

• to test welded joints of DU-300 pipelines.

The overhaul is to be completed on July 27 2008.

Presently, units 1, 2 and 3 are in service. Unit 4 has been under repair since Oct 11. The plant is operating safely. The radiation background at the plant and in the nearby area is within 0.07–0.12 mSvh.
