On Dec 20–22 officers of Northern Nuclear Submarine Fleet visited Volgodonsk NPP

On Dec 20–22 officers of the Northern Nuclear Submarine Fleet Andrey Akatov and Sergey Melnikov visited Volgodonsk Nuclear Power Plant and met with the director of the plant Alexander Palamarchuk.

The parties outlined the key directions of cooperation between the plant and the Severodvinsk submarine brigade: the use of the high professional potential of retired submariners at the plant by employing them at new units, training of young personnel for the nuclear submarine fleet, exchange of technologies.

Palamarchuk said: “You are the military averse of the nuclear shield of our country and we are the civil reverse of that shield.” He told the guests about the work of the plant, its achievements, problems and plans and presented them with souvenirs. In their turn, the guests invited Palamarchuk to take part in the celebrations of the Day of the Submarine Fleet to take place in Murmansk region on Mar 19.

Captains Yuri Lebedev, Aleksey Solovyov and Oleg Vysotsky, who presently work at Volgodonsk NPP, took their colleagues on an excursion of unit 1.

On the second day, the guests visited Volgodonsk Institute of Southern Russian State University, known for its glorious tradition; went to the training center of Volgodonsk NPP to see its full-scale simulator; and to the Cathedral of St. Admiral Ushakov to listen to a bell concert by Sergiy Sklyarenko.

The guests attended the celebrations of the Day of Power Engineer.

They also visited Tsimlyansk to meet with the former designer of nuclear submarines Anatoly Rozhko. For designing a technology ensuring noiseless run of a submarine Rozhko was presented with a Volga car. The guests talked with Rozhko on the phone as the latter was not in the city at the moment.

In conclusion, the parties signed a protocol of intention, which will serve as a basis for the future cooperation agreement.
