The key results of the past year at Leningrad NPP
New Year is not only making new plans for the next year but also summing up the results of the past one.
For Leningrad Nuclear Power Plant the past year was quite successful.
The key events of 2007
February:
— Leningrad NPP hosted public hearings of the problems of possible ecological effects of Leningrad NPP-2 project. Almost 1,000 people took part in the hearings and all of them approved the project.
July:
— Leningrad NPP hosted the awarding ceremony of the 7th International Competition of Children’s Art “We are the Children of Atom City.”
15 delegations from 8 nuclear cities – Desnogorsk, Volgodonsk, Balakovo, Novovoronezh, Udomlia, Kurchatov, Poliarnye Zori and Bilibino — as well as guests from Lithuania, Ukraine, Bulgaria and Finland attended the ceremony.
— The 7th international festival of youths of nuclear power plants of Russia, Ukraine and Lithuania “Desnay 2007” took place at Leningrad NPP.
— Leningrad NPP hosted the 3rd campers’ rally “Energy of the Baltic Sea.”
August:
The Leningrad NPP-2 project was launched: the speaker of the State Duma Boris Gryzlov, the head of the Federal Agency for Nuclear Energy Sergey Kiriyenko and the governor of Leningrad region Valery Serdukov laid in the foundations of the future plant a symbolic capsule with a message to the coming generations.
September:
— Leningrad NPP hosted a complex emergency exercise, which proved the high safety of Russia’s nuclear power plants. All local and foreign observers pointed out the excellent organization of the event.
The exercise was unique: for the first time ever, an emergency situation was staged on a full-scale simulator.
October:
— The 2nd stage of the modernization of unit 2 was completed. The service life of the unit had been extended for 15 years.
— Rostekhnadzor-STUK inspection visited Leningrad NPP. The Russian and Finnish experts checked up several aspects of the plant’s safety system and found out that the system met all international standards.
— Leningrad NPP, together with the Public Chamber of Russia, conducted a roundtable on radiation and ecological safety and personnel training.
— After 1.5 years of modernization full-scale simulator of the 1st and 2nd unit was put into service.
December:
On Dec 26 at 6:00 AM Moscow time Leningrad NPP fulfilled its electricity production plan for 2007 – 24.210bln KWh.
In 2007 the plant is expected to produce 424mln KWh more than planned.
