Advisor of Industry and Agriculture Department and head of Chief Department of Emergency Ministry for Chukotka Autonomous District visit Bilibino NPP

The advisor of Industry and Agriculture Department Valery Kozlov and the head of Chief Department of Emergency Ministry for Chukotka Autonomous District Mikhail Zivilyov visited Bilibino NPP on Jan 12.

The director of Bilibino NPP Farit Tukhvertov met with the guests and told them about the work of the plant, the construction of the 4th cooling pond, boiler and the preparations for the plant’s decommissioning and economic and personnel-related problems.

For 34 years already Bilibino NPP has been the key supplier of electricity to consumers in Chaun, Bilibino and Nizhniaya Kolyma industrial areas: the sides discussed the prospects of further safe and efficient operation of Bilibino NPP and stable supply of heat and electricity to the enterprises of Chaun-Bilibino area. 

The sides discussed the prospects of development of power engineering and mining in Chaun-Bilibino area and Chukotka Autonomous District, as a whole. In the framework of the federal target program for the social and economic development of the Far East and Zabaikalye regions, the authorities of Chukotka AD are planning to reconstruct the existing air lines and to build a 110 KV high-voltage line.

Presently, the authorities are considering optimal ways to develop the mining industry in the area and to unite the power generating capacities into a single energy system. Kozlov said that it was necessary to actively build small nuclear power plants, particularly, a floating nuclear power plant in Pevek. This will be a new stage in the development of power engineering in Chukotka.
