27th Kurchtov Lectures took place at Volgodonsk NPP on Jan 12

The organizer of the lectures is the member of the Volgodonsk Office of the Nuclear Association of Russia Nikolay Bakumtsev.

Kurchatov Lectures are an annual forum for representatives of Volgodonsk Nuclear Power Plant, the manufacturing enterprises, NGOs and youth organizations of Volgodonsk.

The deputy chief for safety of Volgodonsk NPP Vladimir Povarov welcomed the guests on behalf of the management of the plant. He told them about the work of Volgodonsk NPP in 2007 and said that this year the plant is planning to raise the capacity of its 1st unit to 104%.

The guests showed high interest in the construction of the 2nd unit of Volgodonsk NPP and positive attitude to the plant’s work.

The employees of the plant A.Solovyev (Nuclear Safety Department) and A.Koltsov (Radiation Safety Department) reported on the results of the plant’s work to enhance the precision of the analysis of the safety of nuclear fuel and radiation monitoring of the area.

The post-graduates of Volgodonsk Institute of Southern Russian State Technical University and Volgodonsk Institute of Service of Southern Russian Institute of Economics and Service made reports on relationship between science and production, particularly, on research to enhance the safety of nuclear power plants. The deputy director of Southern Russian State Technical University V.Nikiforov pointed out that Kurchatov Lectures might become a good tribune for young researchers.

Representatives of the Public Chamber of Volgodonsk I.Krakhmalny and the chairman of Arbuz NGO A.Serkov made reports on the social aspects of the development of the nuclear power industry.

Kurchatov Lectures have become an essential part of the policy of Volgodonsk NPP, one of the forms of its communication with the population. The secretary of the Volgodonsk Office of the Nuclear Association of Russia A.Solovyov said that during Kurchatov Lectures 2009 the public would be informed about the results of the plant’s work to enhance the capacity of its 1st unit and to timely build the 2nd one. In the future the forum may go outside the boundaries of the city.
