The information about the radiation situation in the Balakovo NPP area in Dec 2007 proves that the plant is safe and efficient

Last month the average daily emission of neutral radioactive gases and radioactive iodine-131 was at zero level.

The beta radiation background in Volga River and the cooling pond of the plant was within norm – 0.038 Bq/l and 0.18 Bq/l, respectively.

The content of caesium-137 in Volga and the cooling pond was 0.012 Bq/l. (the admissible level is 11 Bq/l).

The content of potassium-40 in Volga was 0.04 Bq/l, in the cooling pond – 0.16 Bq/l (the admissible level is 22 Bq/l).

The gamma radiation background was within safe 0.08–01 mSv/h.
