“Nuclear” youth under new conditions

16.01.2008 // Smolensky Atom

12th conference of the Youth Office of the Nuclear Association of Russia took place at Ivanovo State Power Engineering University Dec 5–7 2007

Over 130 young scientists, nuclear power engineers, students and post-graduates from 24 organizations of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan took part in the conference. Smolensk Nuclear Power Plant was represented by the vice chairman of the Youth Organization of Smolensk NPP Valery Mischenko.

The conference had a big program. The event was opened by the president of the Nuclear Association of Russia, the rector of Ivanovo State Power Engineering University, representatives of Rosatom and the administration of Iavnovo region, a number of well-known researchers and public activists. Almost 60 young scientists made reports during the conference.

The meetings of the Youth Office of the Nuclear Association of Russia are a unique opportunity for young researchers to publish their works, to communicate with their colleagues and to adopt the best experience in the sphere. This year the key objective of the conference was to unite the “nuclear” youth. Today, we have grandiose development plans and it is for the youth to carry them out. Our young people should understand that their personal goals and interests are closed inter-linked with the goals and interests of the nuclear industry.

During the conference representatives of the youth organizations of nuclear power plants exchanged experience and discussed their common problems. During roundtable “Cooperation of the Youth of the Nuclear Industry under New Conditions,” Mischenko made a report on the activities of the youth organization of Smolensk NPP. “We are working in the same direction, which proves that this direction is right. Most of the participant organizations have quite big experience and we try to be worthy match to them,” Mischenko said.

As a result of their debates the conferees came to a conclusion that they should take an active part in the development of the nuclear industry, particularly, by forming an effective youth policy. They agreed to carry out a coordinated information policy and to inform each other of their measures by means of the Youth Office of the Nuclear Association of Russia.

The conference has passed a very important decision for Smolensk NPP: to set up a division of the Youth Office of the Nuclear Association of Russia in Desnogorsk. The Youth Organization of Smolensk NPP has almost 10 representatives in the Office and they are already making necessary preparations. The establishment of such a structure will be an excellent opportunity for our specialists to publish their works, to take part in conferences, to exchange experience with their colleagues from all over Russia. This measure complies with the policy of the plant to train highly-qualified specialists for the nuclear industry and to encourage the professional growth of its young employees.
