Kalinin NPP applies new approaches to personnel training

On Jan 22–23 2008 a group of fitters of the electric department of Kalinin Nuclear Power Plant practiced their skills on flange coupling simulators.

The Training Department of Kalinin NPP was one of the first in Rosenergoatom Concern to use special simulators in training its personnel.

High-quality maintenance of flange joints is a very important problem for the Russian NPPs. In 2006 Rosenergoatom drafted a special program to solve this problem, particularly, by improving the practical skills of relevant personnel.

The deputy chief engineer-the head of the Training Department of Kalinin NPP Sergey Slynyov says that this program is very useful. So, the management of the plant have allocated all necessary funds for its effective implementation.

Specialized organizations and Kalinin NPP have designed eight types of simulators. The simulators comprise a special system of hydraulic testing of flange joints. The system allows trainees to see if they did they work well.

“This approach is very important. We should teach our personnel to do their work well enough to prevent additional repairs. This is our goal,” says Slynyov.
