Russian science to help TVEL to enlarge its non-nuclear production

TVEL is organizing an all-Russian scientific-practical seminar-conference “Refractory Metals”

One of the key policies of TVEL Corporation, one of the world’s leading nuclear fuel producers, is to diversify its production with a view to enlarge its presence on home and international markets of non-nuclear products.

The use of refractory metals and alloys opens up wide prospects for development of high technologies not only in nuclear and space industries but also in medicine, communications and transport.

The seminar is to take place at TVEL’s subsidiary, Chepetsk Mechanical Plant. The participants in the seminar will consider proposals by leading Russian research and development companies for introduction of advanced technologies in the field of innovative non-nuclear production based on the use of zirconium, hafnium, titanium, molybdenum, niobium and their alloys.

The seminar is expected to enlarge TVEL’s cooperation with Russian research companies on practical application of innovative ideas. In 2008 TVEL is planning a whole series of similar events.  

Representatives of VNIINM, ARRICT, Giredmet, Institute for High-Temperature Electrochemistry, Lutch, Prometey, OKBM, ITEP, VIAM, MISIS, MEPhI, TVEL and its subsidiaries are expected to attend the seminar.

The enlargement of TVEL’s activities will have a positive effect on the economy of Russia’s regions, will enhance their investment appeal, will help them to establish new productions, create new jobs and develop unique technologies, particularly, in the sphere of ecology.
