Large-scale emergency exercise to take place in Volgodonsk

In Sept 2008 Volgodonsk NPP will host large-scale emergency exercise

In Sept 2008 Volgodonsk Nuclear Power Plant will host complex emergency exercise. Representatives of Rosatom’s Crisis Center, Rosenergoatom Concern’s Crisis Center, Roshydromet, Novovoronezh Emergency Center, VNIIAES, VNIPIET, Kurchatov Institute, NIKIET, OKBM, Typhoon, Nuclear Safety Institute, Emergency Ministry, Interior Ministry and foreign experts are expected to attend the event.

Volgodonsk NPP has already started necessary preparations. The director of the plant has set up a special group for organization and conduct of the exercise. The group meets every week to discuss current tasks and problems.

The objective of the exercise is to check up the efficiency of the plant’s emergency system and to practice emergency response actions.

Radiation control and other special equipment will be used during the training.

According to the scenario, Volgodonsk NPP will face an off-design hypothetical accident followed by a number of technical failures and resulting in serious consequences for the personnel and the environment. The participants in the training do not know the exact scenario.
