Kalinin NPP is hosting a conference on water chemistry

The topic of the conference is «Water Chemistry of the 2nd Circuit of Unit 4 of Kalinin Nuclear Power Plant.» Representatives of VNIIAES, Hydropress, NIAEP and Kalinin NPP are considering questions related to the changes made in the project of the 4th unit of Kalinin NPP due to the use of new water chemistry with dosed ethanolamine in its 2nd circuit. Ethanolamine creates alkaline medium in the circuit and helps to reduce corrosion.

Water chemistry is a very topical problem for all nuclear power plants. Projects to improve water chemistry and to reconstruct feedwater systems have helped Kalinin NPP to extend the lives of the steam generators of its 1st and 2nd units. Kalinin NPP is the only nuclear power plant with WWER-1000 reactors that has not changed its steam generators so far.

The changes in the water chemistry of unit 4 followed the decision to make the equipment of the 2nd circuit of stainless steel (unlike the equipment of the operating units of Kalinin NPP made of carbon steel, copper alloys and other materials). So, the conferees are supposed to work out a new water chemistry standard for the 2nd circuit of unit 4.
