13.02.2008 // Public Information Center of Balakovo NPP

On Feb 6 chief engineer of Balakovo NPP Alexander Shutikov met with operating personnel

The deputies of the director and the chief engineer of Balakovo NPP as well as the heads of the key departments of the plant took part in the meeting. The sides summed up the results of 2007 and outlined tasks for 2008.

2008 will be a hard year for Balakovo NPP. From May 19 till June 6 the plant will be hosting an OSART mission: IAEA experts will be inspecting the plant’s safety systems. The prestige of Balakovo NPP and the whole nuclear power industry of Russia depends on the results of this missions. That’s exactly why Rosenergoatom Concern has proclaimed it to be one of the key events of the year.

The plant has two more important tasks: enhancing the capacity of the 2nd unit to 104% and prolonging the fuel cycle of the 1st unit to 18 months. These projects are part of Rosenergoatom’s program for enhancement of electricity production at its nuclear power plants in 2007–2015.

Last year Balakovo NPP performed quite well: it fulfilled its electricity production plan and showed high efficiency and safety. This inspires hope for further progress. “The most important thing for us is to realize our responsibility,” Shutikov said.

The conferees analyzed all the problems and mistakes they had in 2007. “We are a team and all of us are morally and materially responsible for the mistake of each of us,” Shutikov said.

To remind, in 2007 Balakovo NPP generated 29.963bln KWh, 102.3% of the plant. The capacity factor made up 85.51%. The plant operated safely and efficiently. All of its indices comply with the international standards.
