Leningrad NPP today, Feb 15 2008
Since the beginning of this year units 1, 2 and 4 of Leningrad Nuclear Power Plant have generated a total of 3.235bln KWh. Feb 1–14 they produced 1.023bln KWh.
Since it launch in Dec 1973 the plant has generated 740.127bln KWh.
Presently, units 1, 2 and 4 are operating at a total capacity of 3,060MW. On Feb 12 the capacity of unit 4 was reduced to 50% following the stoppage of turbine generator 4. Now the problem has been solved and the unit is operating at a total capacity of 1,000MW.
Unit 3 has been under repair since July 2007. The unit is being modernized. Presently, the repair personnel are repairing the valves of DU-800 pipeline, replacing the blades of turbine generator 6 and installing and launching equipment in special buildings.
The radiation situation at Leningrad NPP and Sosnovy Bor and its suburbs are within norm, which proves that the plant is safe.
The radiation background in Sosnovy Bor is 0.14 mSvh, at Leningrad NPP – 0.13–0.14 mSvh, which is within norm.
Note
Since Apr 1 2002 Leningrad Nuclear Power Plant has been branch of Federal State Unitary Enterprise “Russian State Concern for Production of Electric and Thermal Energy at Nuclear Power Plants” (“Rosenergoatom” Concern)
Leningrad NPP operates four units with RBMK reactors (1000MW each). The life of the 1st unit has been extended for 15 years, the life of the 2nd unit — for five years (after the current modernization it will be extended for 15 more years). The service periods of 3rd and 4th units expire in 2009 and 2011, respectively. Their lives will be extended for 20 years.
In 2007 Leningrad NPP generated 24.633bln KWh and supplied to consumers 22.515bln KWh against 23.178bln KWh and 21.198bln KWh, respectively, in 2006. In 2007 the capacity factor made up 70.3% against 66.2% in 2006.
