Preliminary round of “Energy of the Future 2008” took place at Kursk NPP on Feb 13 2008

Preliminary round of the 6th International Contest of Scientific-Educational Projects “Energy of the Future 2008” took place at the Information-Analytical Center of Kursk Nuclear Power Plant on Feb 13 2008.

Pupils of high schools of Kurchatov and students of Kurchatov branch of Kursk State Polytechnic College took part in the contest. They presented their research projects on different aspects of the peaceful use of nuclear energy. The contest was also part of Kursk NPP’s program for professional orientation of schoolchildren and students.

The jury comprised representatives of departments of Kursk NPP and the administration of Kurchatov and was chaired by the head of the Radiation Safety Department of Kursk NPP Vasily Stasenko.

11 scientific-educational projects were presented at the contest. All of them were based on the results of sociological surveys carried out among residents of Kurchatov – from schoolchildren to employees of Kursk NPP. Most of the reporters used audio-visual materials in presenting their works.

The members of the jury especially pointed out the projects of Aleksey Yevdokimov “Man and Nature: Symbiosis or Confrontation” (instructor Irina Barikhashvili, biology teachers, high school #6), Tatiana Farafonova “Role of Modern Radio-biology in Resolution of Environment Protection and Ecological Safety Problems” (instructor Galina Gorbacheva, biology teacher, school #3), Yekaterina Kokoreva “Most Human Human Being” (instructor Tamara Burovnikova, physics teacher, high school #4), Olga Lobanova “Atmosphere of the Satellite City of Kursk NPP” (instructors Natalia Skovorodneva, physics teacher, and Inna Matveyeva, biology teacher, high school #5), Maria Vyalykh “Radiation Risk and Its Perception” and Yelena Manuylova “Use of Ionizing Radiation” (instructor Irina Ilchuk, physics teacher, high school #1).

The works of Tatiana Farafonova and Olga Lobanova were recommended for participation in the Energy of the Future contest.

All the participants were presented with certificates and gifts.
