Dinamo (Leningrad region) is fighting its way to the finals

For five days in February the six strongest teams of the European Zone of the Men’s Volleyball Super League “B” were fighting for the right to play in the finals of Russia’s championship.

Our Dinamo (Leningrad region) were the best in this round. They had been on top of the group “B” from the very beginning of the championship.

This time our team were at home and as strong and ambitious as never before. They beat TNK-VR (Orenburg), SKAT (Vladimir) and Lokomotiv-Fakel (Yekaterinburg) 3:0 and Fenix from Smolensk and once unbeatable CSKA from Moscow 3:1. As a result, our men have won the right to play in the finals ahead of time. The other teams will fight the remaining two qualifying places in the last semi-final round in Smolensk in late February-early March.

As winners of the semi-finals, our team will be the host of one of the two final rounds. The Sosnovy Bor final is to take place Apr 14–20, exactly on the days when Sosnovy Bor will be celebrating its 35th birthday. In the finals six teams (the three best teams from European Zone and three from Siberian Zone) will fight for two top places and rights to play in the Super League “A” next year.

The semi-finals were organized perfectly. The employees of the “Energetik” sports and culture complex and “Sosnovy Bor” Hotel did their best to create necessary conditions for the sportsmen and the supporters. Our city has proved once again that it has all conditions for hosting such big sports events.
