The director general of Electrochemical Plant Anatoly Shubin died on Feb 28 2008
He was 70 years old. Shubin was an outstanding personality: extraordinary organizer, talented engineer and researcher, authoritative and demanding manager. Shubin was very hard-working and efficient, honest and responsible.
He started his career in 1962 when he graduated from Ural Polytechnic University and came to plant #235 to start working as senior engineer. He was among the people who launched of that unique plant and 27 years later he was deservedly given the post of its director general.
Shubin was brilliant researcher. As the manager of the experimental-technological laboratory he was one of the authors of the centrifugal method of production of stable and radioactive isotope.
Shubin is candidate of technical sciences, corresponding member of Russian Engineering Academy, honorable professor of Kostroma State Technological University.
He was active participant in all crucial projects implemented at the Electrochemical Plant, one of them being the creation of a workshop for transfer of liquid uranium hexafluoride and sale of that product on the international market.
He also managed such big projects as production of magnet information carriers, production and export of isotopes, construction of W-EP plant for processing of depleted uranium hexafluoride.
Electrochemical Plant and Anatoly Shubin are the pride of Krasnoyarsk region. EP is one of the five biggest producers of isotopes and meets almost ¼ of the world demand for stable isotopes. The plant has received lots of international awards for its high technological potential and efficiency.
Shubin was perfect manager and had a sharp nose for economic profit. He did not get lost in the sea of new market relations and managed to steer his company towards new prospective shores. Constantly search for new effective methods of management helped Shubin not only to preserve his staff but even to create new jobs. Even in the hardest years of reforms his plant did not reduce its production and managed to improve its work.
Shubin actively developed the scientific basis of the plant and constantly improved its social policy. He enlarged the plant’s auxiliary facilities, Iskra and sanatorium and created a holiday camp.
The name of Anatoly Shibin is written down in golden letters in the annals of the plant, the city, the region and the nuclear industry of Russia. There were few such big personalities in our industry. He did a lot for his plant and his country and enjoyed respect among his colleagues and recognition by his government. He had lots of awards but his key award was the love and respect of people.
The administration and the trade union of Electrochemical Plant extend their deep condolences to the relatives and friends of Anatoly Shubin.
