2nd inter-sector winter sports contest “Polar Nucleus 2008”is setting off in Poliarnye Zori today

The opening ceremony is to be held in the central square of the city at 6:00 PM. The organizers will welcome the contestants and the guests. The official ceremony will be followed by torchlight procession, firework and theatrical performance.

Two teams of Rosenegoatom Concern will fight for the Cup: Rosenergoatom-1, representing the best sportsmen of all nuclear power plants of Russia, and Rosenergoatom-2, the team of the host, Kola NPP.

Among the rivals of Rosenergoatom’s teams are the teams of Lokomotiv sports society (Murmansk section of Octiabrsky Railway), Kola Mining Company (who perfectly performed) last year, Kandalaksha Aluminum Plant (who will perform for the first time), Harvest sports society from a number of villages of the region as well as Atom Sport sports society (the best team in 2007).

The contest consists of five events: ski race (sprint and relay race), slalom, polyathlon, snow football and rink bandy. There will also be a contest of supporters.
