On Mar 20 2008 OKBM hosted a conference of Nizhniy Novgorod Office of Nuclear Society of Russia

The managers and employees of Rosatom companies in Nizhniy Novgorod and representatives of the city’s specialized universities took part in the conference. The vice president of the Nuclear Society of Russia S.Kushnaryov made a report on NSR’s activities and the tasks of its regional offices for 2008.

The Nizhniy Novgorod Office of NSR has almost 100 members: managers and senior specialists of companies, veterans, teachers, students and post-graduates. The key member-organizations are the Experimental Design Bureau of Machine Building (OKMB), Nizhniy Novgorod Atomenerogproekt (NIAEP), Research Institute of Measuring Systems (NIIIS), Russian Federal Nuclear Center-All-Russian Research Institute of Experimental Physics (RFNC-VNIIEF), Nizhniy Novgorod State Technological University (NSTU).

Kushnaryov pointed out that the manufacturing and research companies of Nizhniy Novgorod and Nizhno Novgorod region made a significant contribution to the development of the nuclear power industry, nuclear science and nuclear defense complex. Nuclear scientists and nuclear power engineers of Nizhniy Novgorod are actively involved in the construction of nuclear reactors in Russia and abroad, they design new nuclear technologies and work out innovative projects. Rosatom’s universities in Nizhniy Novgorod train highly-qualified personnel for nuclear power plants and nuclear science.

In 2004–2007 the members of Nizhniy Novgorod Office of NSR took an active part in NSR’s projects, organized similar projects in Nizhniy Novgorod, attended public hearings of NPP projects in different regions, carried out PR campaigns in support of nuclear energy.

The conferees pointed out the necessity of intensifying the Office’s work to solve the urgent problems of the nuclear industry and science, particularly, to participate in the drafting of the strategy for development of nuclear industry till 2050 and other important development programs, to implement the projects of Nizhniy Novgorod research companies, to conduct PR campaigns among the population, to shape positive imagine of the nuclear power industry and the profession of nuclear power engineer and to attract youths into the sector.

During the conference the members of the Office elected a new board.
