Electric Equipment Council of Rosenergoatom Concern met at Kalinin NPP on Mar 18–20 2008

Representatives of Rosenergoatom Concern, heads of electric departments of Russian NPPs and Armenian Nuclear Power Plant, specialists of Energoatom company (Ukraine), managers and employees of nuclear companies and organizations of Russia took part in the meeting.

The topic of the meeting was «Enhancement of Safety and Efficiency of the Electric Equipment of Nuclear Power Plants.»

The conferees exchanged experience on operation of electric equipment in 2007 and early 2008 and discussed draft complex program for enhancement of the safety and efficiency of electric equipment of the Rosenergoatom nuclear power plants in 2008–2013.

The deputy head of the Electric Department of Kalinin Nuclear Power Plant Alexandra Arkhipova said that it was not a coincidence that the meeting was conducted in Udomlia: «Our plant works hard to enhance the efficiency and safety of its electric equipment: we were among the first in Rosenergoatom Concern to use open distribution systems with sulfur hexafluoride switches as well as non-damageable transformers. We have an interesting project for replacement of switches in auxiliary networks. But we have much to do yet. In this light, the information provided by our colleagues from Khmelnitsky and South-Ukrainian NPPs was very useful: they have not only replaced their transformers and switches but have also upgraded and replaced part of their cables and all of hermetic cable penetrations and high-voltage bushings in their transformers and reactors. This experience is very useful. We have learned much from representatives of research and development companies. They have told us about their new testing systems and equipment for nuclear power plants. So, it was a very fruitful meeting.»

As a result of the meeting the Council made a number of recommendations for further dissemination of the positive experience of Russian and Ukrainian nuclear power plants in the field of use of modern electric equipment and systems as well as suggested topics for the coming annual meeting of the deputy heads of electric departments for relay protection and automation and for the conference of the deputy heads of electric departments for operation (Kursk NPP Apr 1–2 2008).
