WANO mission visits Balakovo NPP

Experts of WANO Moscow Center have visited Balakovo NPP

It was a technical support mission. The subject was “Operating Experience.” During the visit the experts told the local personnel about the advanced operating experience of national and foreign nuclear power plants and the methods of collection and recording of information about such experience as an important element of safety culture.

The experts were invited by the management of Balakovo NPP. Among them were specialists from Kola NPP, Novovoronezh Training Center and VNIIAS (All-Russian Research Institute for Nuclear Reactors).

The head of the mission, the advisor of the WANO Moscow Center Sergey Kezin said that Balakovo NPP was replacing its personnel, upgrading its equipment and making changes to its technological system, so, it needed information about the best experience in the sphere.

“It is important to know how this may influence the future operation of the reactors. For example, Balakovo NPP is implementing a program to enhance the capacity of its 2nd reactor. So, it needs the experience of the plants that have already enhanced their capacities. Exchange of experience is the best way to improve safety culture,” KEzin said.
