Professional Orientation Center presented in Desnogorsk

A Professional Orientation Center was presented in school#3 of Desnogorsk on Mar 21.

Its exposition, prepared with the support of specialists of Smolensk Nuclear Power Plant, presents the prospects of Russia’s nuclear industry, the work of Smolensk NPP and its departments and the professions the industry needs for the moment.

Special stands provide information about higher and high schools training specialists for nuclear power plants.

The deputy director of Smolensk NPP Anatoly Terletsky pointed out the importance of such centers. “Today, our industry is quickly developing and we urgently need specialists,” he said.

Representatives of Desnogorsk colleges and Ivanovo Energy University were invited to the presentation. The director of school #3 Raisa Kameneva made a report on professional education in Desnogorsk, its problems, experience and prospects.

Smolensk NPP receives journalists

On Mar 21 Smolensk Nuclear Power Plant received a group of journalists from MIR inter-state TV and radio company (Belarus). The guests explained that they were preparing a program about the development of nuclear energy in the CIS countries and were going to show Smolensk NPP in the film.

The film crew visited the 1st unit of Smolensk NPP. The author of the program Igor Yegorov interviewed the shift manager Nikolay Dobryaev and some other employees. The journalists filmed the reactor control panel and the machine compartment.

The journalists asked the local specialists how they modernized their reactors and how they ensured the safety of their plant. The guests were satisfied with their visit and thanked the hosts for their hospitality and information.

Young nuclear workers organize brain-ring tournament

The Organization of Young Nuclear Workers conducted a brain-ring tournament at the Youth Palace of Desnogorsk on Mar 21. Six teams representing Smolensk NPP: “Veterans” (Council of Veterans), “Trade Union” (Trade Union), “TsISO” (Information Center) and three youth teams (“Ltd,” “Atomic Youth” and “Quantum”) took part in the contest. “Trade Union” and “Quantum” fought for the third place. Trade Union was stronger. The final game between “Ltd” and “TsISO” was very uncompromising with two additional rounds played. As a result, “Ltd” was proclaimed the winner.

Despite high passions and strong aspiration to win, the teams were very friendly to each other: all the battles ended with friendly handshakes. “Trade Union” even made a present to their younger rivals: they gave them their red T-shirts.

During the awarding ceremony the sports executive of the Organization of Young Nuclear Workers Alexander Kukharenko thanked everybody for excellent performance and active participation. “In our turn, we would also like to thank the organizers for this excellent event,” the chairman of the Trade Union of Smolensk NOO Yuri Kuznetsov said.
