Office of Russian Nuclear Society to be opened in Leningrad region

26.03.2008 // Information Department of Leningrad NPP

An office of Russian Nuclear Society will be opened in Leningrad region

This decision is a response to the growing interest of the public and specialists in the construction of Leningrad NPP-2.

It was made during the meeting of the Nuclear Society of North-West and St.Petersburg in the House of Scientist on Mar 25. The vice president of Russian Nuclear Society S.Kushnaryov, the chairman of the Nuclear Society of North-West and St.Petersburg V.Lebedev, delegations of Leningrad Nuclear Power Plant and St.Petersburg office of Sevmash took part in the meeting.

The deputy director for science of St.Petersburg Atomenergoproekt, V.Bezlepkin made a report on the LNPP-2 project.

He said that after signing the contract for the construction of the 1st and 2nd reactors of LNPP-2 Atomenergoproekt was waiting for Rostekhnadzor’s permission to start the project. Presently, the company is carrying out preparatory work: building a network of access roads, preparing the construction infrastructure, digging the foundation pit.

All the equipment for the project will be produced by national manufacturers: the equipment for the WWER-1200 reactor will be made by OMZ, the turbines and generators by Leningrad Metal Plant (asset of Power Machines OJSC)

Bezlepkin pointed out that Finnish partners were also interested in the project and the possibility of its adaptation and application at Loviiza NPP.

The conferees discussed the possibility of reorganization of the St.Petersburg Nuclear Society into regional office of RNS.

«We are also planning to set up RNS offices in other regions of North-Western Russia: in Arkhangelsk and Murmansk regions,» Kushnaryov said.

Note

The construction of LNPP-2 is part of the federal target program for the development of the energy industry of Russia 2007–2015 approved by the Government of the Russian Federation on Oct 5 2006.

On Aug 30 the speaker of the State Duma Boris Gryzlov, the head of Rosatom Sergey Kiriyenko and the governor of Leningrad region Valery Serdukov officially launched the LNPP-2 project.

On Sept 12 Rostekhnadzor granted licenses for deployment of the 1st and 2nd units of Leningrad NPP-2.

In 2008 the Government is planning to allocate 6bln RUR for the project. The total cost of the project is almost 70bln RUR.

The project was approved by the public and is presently being considered by the Chief State Inspection.

The project is analogous to the units built by Russian specialists at Tianwan NPP in China – WWER-1000.

The 1st unit is to be launched in 2013.
