28.03.2008 // Information Department of Kola NPP
Heads of chemical departments of Russian nuclear power plants with WWER reactors have met at Kola NPP
Representatives of the Central Office of Rosenergoatom Concern, Kola, Volgodonsk, Kalinin and Balakovo NPPs discussed water chemistry and water treatment problems. The specialists of Kola NPP told their colleagues about the plant’s automated chemical control system and the use of ODA (stearylamine). This matter is used for protecting and preserving equipment of second circuit: when applied to metal ODA produces a water repelling film. Kola NPP was the first to apply this method in 1981. In 1986–1992 ODA was used by Nord NPP in German Democratic Republic.
The conferees expressed opinion that the modern fundamental science of Russia should more actively study the experience of nuclear power plants and to help the nuclear industry with its recommendations, particularly, in the sphere of water chemistry.
