Deuterium beam acceleration

On Mar 29–30 2008 the booster of the Institute of High Energy Physics produced the first deuterium beam acceleration (Z/A = 1/2) with energy of 16.7 to 450 MeV/nuclon

The intensity of the accelerated beam made up 3*10^10 deuteron per cycle. The injection was carried out by means of two resonators of I100 linear accelerator at second frequency harmonic.

Deuterium ion acceleration is an important step in IHEP’s program to accelerate light ions with Z/A = ½.
