Mayor of Volgodonsk and director of Volgodonsk NPP give a press-conference

On Apr 17 the mayor of Volgodonsk Viktor Firsov and the director of Volgodonsk NPP Alexander Palamarchuk gave a press-conference

One of the key objectives of the press-conference was to inform the mass media and the population of the 30-km zone about the start of planned maintenance campaign at the 1st unit of the plant. The campaign is starting on Apr 19 and will last for 40 days.

Palamarchuk told the journalists about the results of the work of Volgodonsk NPP in 2007. He pointed out that the plant was the biggest tax-payer in the region: in 2007 it paid a total of 359.5mln RUR in taxes with over 2.108bln RUR paid since the launch of the plant’s 1st unit. Palamarchuk also reported on the construction of the 2nd unit. He said that almost 70% of the work had already been done with the commissioning data still unchanged – 2009.

Palamarchuk also told the journalists about the course of the program for the construction of social facilities in the 30-km zone. He assured Firsov and the journalists that in May at latest the plant will make advanced allocations for the program. Firsov set the primary tasks: to build sports grounds all over the zone, to construct new houses, to lay trolleybus lines, etc. Firsov and Palamarchu said that the project to build the Christmas Cathedral would shortly be resumed. “We are planning to finish this project by the time we finish the construction of the 2nd unit,” Palamarchuk said. To remind, both Firsov and Palamarchuk are members of the board of trustees of the project.

Palamarchuk said that on May 9 all the WWII veterans of the 30-km zone will be provided with financial support.
