Kalinin NPP starts maintenance campaign

On Apr 23 3rd unit of Kalinin NPP was stopped for mid-term maintenance

Some 6,285 operations are supposed to be carried out during the maintenance: disassembly of the reactor, refueling, assembly of the reactor, shell metal testing, repair of the safety system.
 
11 operations will be carried out in the framework of the modernization program: particularly, installation of a new system for purification of water in the cooling pond and a screwdriver of new design.

The greater part of the work will be carried out by the local personnel. Specialists from the sub-contractor companies will also be involved in the campaign.

The repair of the 3rd unit has marked the beginning of this year’s maintenance campaign. It will be followed by the repair of the 2nd unit and in late Aug the overhaul of the 1st unit. The total duration of the campaign is 160 years.

Presently, units 1 and 2 are operating at a total capacity of 2,063MW.

The radiation background at Kalinin NPP and in the nearby area is within norm.
