On Apr 22–25 RFNC-VNIIEF hosted 2nd all-Russian seminar on laser physics and laser technologies for students, post-graduates and young researchers
Over 100 youths from Moscow, St.Petersburg, Nizhniy Novgorod and other cities attended lectures by leading experts of VNIIEF, General Physics Institute and Applied Physics Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology on the following topics: powerful lasers, lasers with ultra-short pulse length, non-linear optics and methods of transformation of laser beams, hot and dense plasma physics, technological and medical uses of lasers.
While opening the seminars the research manager of VNIIEF R.Ilkayev said:
“Scientific research is the basis of all our projects. This is our tradition as we began our activities as a division of the National Academy of Sciences. Now that nuclear tests have been banned, we should engage in deeper study of hot and dense plasma physics and lasers. Lasers are indispensable for physical measurement. All developed countries are presently working in this direction. During a recent roundtable our young researchers and specialists discussed the role of youth conferences in enhancing the efficiency of our research activities.”
The participants in the seminar presented over 50 reports. “This time the reports were much better than the ones presented during the 1st seminar,” the chairman of the program committee of the seminar, the director of the Laser Physics Institute S.Garanin said while closing the seminar. He pointed out that such seminars were becoming a good tradition. The next seminar is to take place in Sarov next year and will cover new spheres, like astro-physics and physics of elementary particles.
