Kursk NPP has conducted ecological clean-up action
On May 16 Kursk Nuclear Power Plant conducted an ecological clean-up. The action was part of the traditional All-Russian Days of Protection from Ecological Danger and marked the beginning of the second stage of the ecological month. The campaign was conducted in the territory of the buffer zone: the participants collected litter and tidied up the shore of the plant’s cooling pond.
The deputy director general of Rosenergoatom Concern-the director of Kursk Nuclear Power Plant Yuri Slepokon said that the cooling pond of Kursk NPP was not just a hydraulic structure: “Scientists have found here several species recorded in the Red Book of Kursk region. We are obliged to protect them and to keep the pond clean.”
A big area of the shore was cleaned up as a result of the action. Several more clean-ups will be conducted during the ecological month: particularly, in the territory of the central reserve area of the reservoir, which has become a real natural reserve in the last years.
